Welcome to the homepage of Starfish Cottages situated on Galu Kinondo Beach - a pristine, beautiful beach south of Mombasa which is often described as one of Africa’s finest.

It has beautiful white sand, with no great fluctuation in tides and is totally unspoilt.

It is the perfect place if you want a relaxing time to pamper youself in the sun, enjoy the warm Indian ocean or simply to relax on the palm-fringed beach.

The beach is protectd by a reef and the sea is safe to swim in.

Galu beach is just under 30 km south of Mombasa island, and adjoins the well-known Diani beach where there are many developed hotels, shops and restaurants.
Starfish cottages is situated right on the beach on its own plot with shady trees to the rear which are the home to numerous birds and are often enjoyed by the local colobus and sykes monkies.


At present there is just one beach house on the plot with more anticipated for the future. The villa, comprising a huge spacious verandah with a kitchen, dining facilities and sitting room. It has two double bedrooms, one of which can take an extra single.
One bedroom has on suite shower and toilet and the other has its own toilet with a bath and shower.

Galu Beach
The house has been built to maximise the flow of the monsoon winds through the house and so has no air conditioning; with the large shady verandah it is cool throughout most of the day. At present the house is undergoing renovations which are aimed to be completed for the beginning of December 2006.

There are numerous activities to be done along the beach from a simple stroll along the beautiful sands to more energetic pursuits such as kite surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, and if you are interested in game viewing, the Mwaluganji Elephant sanctuary is a half hour’s drive from Diani beach.

If you are interested in safaris further afield, you can arrange a safari through a local tour operator to the famous Tsavo park or Amboseli park at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
